SMART releases white paper to keep interactive whiteboard users up to date

White paper helps decision makers understand issues concerning interactive whiteboard resolution

CALGARY, ALBERTA --- July 5, 2006 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the release of its latest whitepaper The Truth About Interactive Whiteboard Resolution – Why higher resolution does not always mean greater accuracy. The white paper sets the record straight about how resolution is measured on interactive whiteboards and projectors. The truth about interactive whiteboard resolution, dated June 2006, outlines the difference between touch resolution and projector resolution. The white paper also discloses that the SMART Board interactive whiteboard is capable of handling 15 million more pieces of touch data that a typical projector can deliver. In short, projector resolution is the limiting factor, not the interactive whiteboard. The PDF can be found on the SMART website at www2.smarttech.com/st/en-US/Products/SMART+Boards/.

Over its 20-year history, SMART has developed a variety of programs and resources, including white papers, in an effort to inform prospects and customers about interactive whiteboards and group collaboration tools. SMART is the global education market segment leader in interactive whiteboards and has developed this white paper as part of a series of initiatives to inform teachers, administrators, technology directors, business managers, trainers, government officials and other potential purchasers on the finer points to consider when making technology investment decisions.

“People have some understanding of resolution because of LCD projectors, but they don’t necessarily know how resolution relates to an interactive whiteboard,” says Nancy Knowlton, president and co-CEO of SMART.  “Since inventing the SMART Board interactive whiteboard some 15 years ago, the resolution of our interactive whiteboards has been dramatically in excess of projector resolution, and a white paper on the subject will help purchasers make informed decisions.”

About SMART Board interactive whiteboards
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is a large, touch-sensitive display. Connected to a computer and projector, the interactive whiteboard is like a giant computer screen that students and teachers simply touch to operate. Using their finger or a pen as a mouse, teachers and students can access and control any computer application, file or multimedia platform, including the Internet, CD-ROMs and DVDs. They can also write over applications in digital ink, then save their work for future study and review. The SMART Board interactive whiteboard engages students with diverse learning styles by providing both immediate access to a wide range of digital materials and a common focus for the entire class – not something easily achieved with other classroom technology products. It is the number one choice among primary and secondary school educators in upwards of 100 countries because it captures the imagination of students of all backgrounds and abilities in order to help them learn together, understand better and achieve more.
